SDES Black Hills Chapter Scholarship

The Black Hills Chapter of SDES Scholarship is funded by mutual fund earnings established in part with our Chapter's proceeds from sponsoring the National NSPE convention in Rapid City. That convention was brought to Rapid City in large part through Bill Craig's efforts. Therefore, the scholarship bears his name. Additionally, the Chapter continues to solicit donations and other fund-raising measures with a goal of reaching a total portfolio of $20,000 to generate annual earnings for the scholarship. The main scholarship criteria is to award to returning SDSM&T undergraduate or graduate engineering students active in professional societies and activities. Also, the recipient must be a U.S. citizen with a grade point average of at least 2.5. Applications are accepted beginning in January. The award is announced at the annual Engineers Week Banquet in February, with first payment made at the start of the following fall semester. SDES Central Chapter Scholarship

The Central Chapter Engineering Scholarship is funded by an Endowed Account. This account was established through local engineer contributions. As the account grows, we hope to increase the amount and number of scholarships awarded.

Currently, the Chapter awards one $700 Engineering Scholarship to a graduating senior in the Central Chapter area. Applicants should be attending one of two engineering schools in the state (either South Dakota State University or South Dakota School of Mines and Technology) and majoring in engineering. The Central Chapter Scholarship Committee picks the scholarship winner. The scholarship money is sent to the school of choice once enrollment is verified. Application forms may be obtained from the document link of this website or the Central Chapter of SDES, PO Box 685, Pierre SD 57501. Application deadline is March 19, 2012.
