SDES Annual Chapter and State Awards

Award Opportunities

Each year the South Dakota Engineering Society sponsors two awards recognizing SDES members who have made outstanding contributions to the engineering profession and their communities. SDES, in conjunction with the American Council of Engineering Companies of South Dakota, also awards an Outstanding Engineering Achievement award to acknowledge the accomplishments of the engineering profession.

The Young Engineer of the Year Award is selected from licensed professional engineers (PE or EIT) who are SDES members in good standing, have made outstanding contributions to the engineering profession and their communities during the early years of their careers and are 34 years of age or younger, as of January 1 of the year the award will be presented.

The Engineer of the Year Award recognizes SDES members who have made outstanding contributions to the engineering profession, the public welfare and/or humankind. Any licensed professional engineer (PE or EIT) who is a SDES member in good standing is eligible for nomination.

The Outstanding Engineering Achievement Award recognizes any worthy project that contributes to meeting a human or social need may be nominated by any engineer or engineering firm. Nominations may include specific end products such as buildings and dams, a significant process, a contribution toward solving an engineering problem such as environmental or traffic congestion, and/or industrial research and development. The nominated project must have been completed between January 1 and December 31 of the previous year.
